In a Wednesday night Pro Box TV Promotions event, Robbie Davies Jr. returned after a long hiatus to put on a beautiful barn-stormer with Sergey Lipinets – whose record now reaches 18-3-1 with a win over the Brit.
In a bloody, brilliant ballet of a fight, Davies Jr. (now 23-5) and Lipinets gave it all in the name of entertainment. The scorecards read 95-92, 96-91 and 98-89; although this suggests that the bout was far more one-sided than it actually played out.
The early rounds proved to be surprisingly docile, with Davies Jr. adjusting to the ring after such a long time. Both fighters had felt one another out by the third round, with Davies Jr. making a heated push at the end with a short left hook, before continuing to apply the pressure in the fourth.
Lipinets, however, had more stores of power in his body throughout, using a brutal and suppressing right hand to crush Davies Jr. to the canvas. The Liverpudlian rose from the floor, followed by the gushing of blood from his nose.
Despite all his efforts, Lipinets clearly dealt with the punches more efficiently than Davies Jr.
Davies Jr. went down twice in the eight round, arguably one of the best rounds of the year so far. Having gone down twice, Davies Jr. was only emboldened and ended the round strong with a flurry of violence.
Lipinets had done enough, however. He emerged the victor after 10 rounds.
Lightweight hopeful Tsendbaatar Erdenbat (10-0) decimated his opponent, Alberto Mercado (17-7-1), within three of their scheduled eight rounds. Erdenbat was relentless and aggressive, hardly letting up throughout. In a division stripped for talent, Erdenbat would be a surprise contender in the future; certainly, Erdenbat did better against Mercado than Floyd Schofield, who failed to finish the Puerto Rican in their bout.
Elsewhere, heavyweight prospect Fernely Feliz Jr. (8-0) secured a dominant, if hard-fought, win against Cesar Navarro (11-2). Feliz Jr. proved to be the more methodical boxer, with superior skills to show, despite the power of Navarro overwhelming the young heavyweight at times. The scores reflected the dominance, with 78-74, 79-73 and 79-73 for Feliz Jr.
Also on the card, yet another prospect, Robert Meriwether III (6-0) would demonstrate highly technical boxing in a systematic dismantling of opponent Victor Manuel Lopez Gala (5-1). Despite only being 19, his prowess is clear and evident, with every judge scoring the six round bout 60-54.
Pro Box Promotions delivers yet again with another understated but intense card from Florida.
