David Benavidez: Vegas-Bound and Desperate?

By Nationvegas - 05/03/2024 - Comments

David Benavidez, always the persistent one, posted on social media on Friday that he was on his way to Las Vegas.

It’s believed that Benavidez will attend the Canelo-Munguia fight this Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena and will attempt to enter the ring after the contest to call out Canelo if he’s victorious. This reeks of stalkerish behavior.

The Stalker Vibes are Real

Hopefully, Benavidez doesn’t make a mad dash to enter the ring and wind up being dragged out of the arena kicking and screaming because he can’t get at Canelo.

Canelo has already made it clear that he’s not interested in fighting Benavidez unless he’s given 150-200 million. Benavidez’s management doesn’t have that kind of dough, so there’s no reason for him to be at the fight unless he just wants to watch as a sports fan.

What’s the point of Benavidez showing up if there’s no chance of Canelo fighting him? Canelo isn’t going to be guilt-tripped into fighting Benavidez by him entering the ring afterward.

This fight ain’t happening unless Benavidez’s management has been hiding a Scrooge McDuck fortune.

Will Security Get Involved?

Somehow, I find that hard to believe. Benavidez wouldn’t be making that long trek from Seattle, Washington to Las Vegas if it wasn’t for him to try and enter the ring and force himself on Canelo.

Security will be tight, and it’s not likely that Benavidez will make it past them to force his way into the ring to try and take advantage of the spotlight to put pressure on the superstar Canelo to fight him.  I think the security will earn their paychecks on Saturday at the T-Mobile.

Canelo will have likely told security to be on the lookout for a wild-eyed 6’2″ Benavidez to ensure he doesn’t enter the ring.

“On our way to Vegas,” said David Benavidez on Instagram on Friday.

Instead of Benavidez trying to pressure Canelo, he needs to talk to His Excellency and offer to step in and replace the injured Artur Beterbiev as the opponent for Dmitry Bivol to fight next month on June 1st. Bivol needs an opponent now to replace Beterbiev, who suffered a ruptured meniscus.
