Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya had Canelo Alvarez piping hot during today’s final press conference for Canelo’s fight against Jaime Munguia this Saturday night on May 4th on pay-per-view.

Reading from a prepared speech, De La Hoya took credit for Golden Boy building Canelo from the ground up when he started his professional career almost 20 years ago, saying that they had turned him into the star he is today.

Next thing, De La Hoya brought up Canelo’s past drug tests. That’s when things got bad. Canelo then erupted, firing off expletives nonstop in rapid-fire Spanish, just looking like he wanted to tear De La Hoya apart.

Did this stop De La Hoya from roasting Canelo? Nope. Oscar continued to cook Canelo, not giving him a gear while he gleefully continued to read his speech. Canelo’s cursing was mere background noise.

“Golden Boy built Canelo Alvarez, period,” De La Hoya said.

Canelo Loses It

“The company you fought under for decades has always had one name and it’s mine. So put some f*** respect on it,” said De La Hoya. “Remember when Jaime was 21 years old and volunteered to step in against GGG and Canelo failed two drug tests? Although Jaime wasn’t able to fulfill his dream in 2018, on Saturday night, he will do just that. Fulfill his dream and become a world champion.

Canelo went for the podium, looking like he was ready to turn De La Hoya into a punching bag. Luckily, the staff stepped in to prevent Canelo from getting at Oscar before he could put his hands on him.

Well, the good news is the Canelo vs. Munguia event got some badly needed drama today to get a few more boxing fans interested in it, considering the promotion has been lacking. For an expensive event as costly as this one is on PPV, the organizers needed more promotion to give people a reason to want to spend $89.99 in ordering it.

Instead of De La La Hoya being the one that got Canelo’s feathers ruffled, it should have been Munguia, but he’s too polite and well-mannered to trash-talk. Also, Munguia is so grateful that he’s been given the opportunity by Canelo that he’s not about to bite the hand that feeds. After all, Canelo is turning Munguia into a millionaire by giving him this fight.
