Sebastian Fundora believes he can knock out Tim Tszyu to dethrone him of his WBO junior middleweight title this Saturday night in their highly anticipated 12-round headliner on Prime PPV at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Most of the talk since Fundora (20-1-1, 13 KOs) was brought in as a sub for the injured Keith Thurman was of the heavy-handed Tszyu (24-0, 17 KOs) knocking him out in this fight.
Interestingly, the 6’5″ Fundora is talking about wanting to stop Tszyu, and he feels it’s entirely possible. If he can pull that off, it would be a massive upset and ruin Tszyu’s hopes of moving on to face Terence Crawford next. I
Instead, Tszyu would have to get in line and wait for Fundora to take on the Nebraska native, and he would get the winner.
Tszyu the Favorite, But Fundora Plots Upset
“Honestly, I could care less about that,” said Sebastian Fundora to Jai McAllister when asked about his reaction to Tim Tszyu looking past him towards a fight against Terence Crawford next. “I’m not fighting Terence Crawford right now. So, I’m going to be thinking more about this fight right now.
“Whatever they’re talking about outside of the ring. They can say they’re fighting Mike Tyson tomorrow, but I just want to focus on this week and this Saturday.
It’s wise for Fundora to tune out the talk that Team Tszyu has been doing about fighting Crawford because it’s meaningless. He still needs to fight him on Saturday night for the vision to become a reality, and if Fundora wins, Tszyu and forget about Crawford.
Knockout on the Mind
“I think I can. Of course, I can, but that’s part of boxing. You have all kinds of results,” said Fundora when asked if he thinks he can knock out Tszyu.
“We’ve trained hard for this, and we’re planning on becoming champion on Saturday,” said Fundora.
The 27-year-old Fundora has enough power to knock out Tszyu if he can hit him with enough shots, as he did in his stoppage win over Erickson Lubin. Fundora isn’t a one-punch KO artist, but he hits hard enough to knock out anyone if he lands enough punches throughout the fight.
“I was already happy fighting for a world championship. The WBC was a big deal already, but now they have added the WBO to it. We’re fighting for the crown at 154. This fight right here will concrete who is the best at 154 right now,” said Fundora.
